Volunteer with us!

We welcome new volunteers!  As a volunteer you will learn and share the stories of the history, horticulture, wildlife, iconography, and the lives buried in the cemetery.  Please email us at friendsofhcw@gmail.com to let us know your interests and areas of expertise.

Here are some areas where you might like to be involved:

Trail Stewards

Under the guidance of Board Member and Trail Steward Manager Steve Mahler, a group of volunteers have committed to being Trail Stewards. This involves a wide variety of tasks, including trail maintenance and improvements. The stewards meet once or twice weekly to work on the trails and would welcome help from any who are interested, whether on a weekly basis or just once in a while. If you are interested in participating, contact Steve at 207-251-3225 or slmahler@hotmail.com.

Epitaph Transcriptions

Many of the stones in the Old Burial Ground section of the cemetery are over 200 years old and in danger of having their information lost forever as the inscriptions fade. Projects are underway to record the information. Help is always needed in transcribing the inscriptions.

United Way Day of Caring

Hope Cemetery has been fortunate to be a work site for the United Way York County Day of Caring for several years. Volunteers from Charter Oak Capital Management, Kennebunk Light and Power and Kennebunk High School have provided critical support in creating and improving the trails we have today. We look forward to continuing our involvement with this great day each year!
